RAC comments on diesel prices hitting a five-year low

RAC head of external affairs Pete Williams said: “Motorists can hardly have missed that the price of diesel at the pumps has been tumbling, thanks to falling wholesale prices and more of the fuel available on the market. Diesel is now the cheapest it has been all year, with the average price on forecourts standing at 112.95p. Supermarkets and some price-competitive independents are selling it for considerably cheaper – for as little as 105.9p per litre in some locations, and we anticipate prices to come down by a few pence within the next fortnight.

“The effect on motorists’ pockets has been dramatic. RAC Fuel Watch data shows that cost to fill up an average diesel family car is now more than £4 cheaper than it was three months ago, and nearly £12 cheaper than a year ago.”
