The Motor Insurer's Bureau has said that they have seen a 10% increase in the number of claims it is dealing with relating to injury claims arising from accidents with uninsured drivers

Experts may be called in to set the discount rate used to work out personal injury payouts after a backlash brought about by increasing insurance costs for motorists and a near-£6bn bill in the running of the NHS.

The Government has cut the 'Ogden' Discount Rate from 2.5% to -0.75% meaning compensation pay-outs in life-changing personal injury cases are expected to rise sharply. The measure, announced by Lord Chancellor Liz Truss on Monday to the London Stock Exchange, will affect financial awards given to victims of medical negligence, car crashes and other incidents.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) Motor Premium Tracker, which has been running since 2012, shows premiums are now the highest they have seen. The previous peak was in the second quarter of 2012 when the average was £443. The average price paid in the fourth quarter of 2016 for private comprehensive cover was £462.
