The RAC said the diesel price cut by major supermarkets to below £1 a litre is great news for diesel drivers, particularly after the expense of Christmas but it is long overdue. And the really good news is diesel car drivers with an average 55 litre fuel tank will be saving over £10 every time they fill-up compared with this time last year..

The RAC reacts to the news that three filling stations in the Midlands are now selling diesel for under £1 a litre. This follows repeated calls by the RAC for retailers to reflect the fall in the wholesale diesel price at the pumps.

The price of oil has now been well below the $40 a barrel mark for two weeks, bringing with it £1 a litre petrol at supermarkets and other price-competitive retailers. The RAC, however, is repeating its call for a cut in diesel pump prices as wholesale savings are not being passed on at the forecourt.
